A brief announcement from our lead editor.

Playtest Material has been operating out of a strange little space in the internet where we have a tiny html coded website and a couple of social media sites. However, with our first issue due to be released on October 1, it has become essential to begin to collect subscriptions.

We have resolved that for as long as we can, digital versions of our magazine will be open access. That means that subscribing (for free) on our basic tier will get you access to the entire quarterly magazine.

The magazine, however, also has costs. As such, we have a solidarity digital tier available. By subscribing to this, you support the magazine in a way that makes it sustainable for us to continue, by covering our hosting fees and allowing us to improve the magazine further. This also gives you comment access and early content, as well as some articles which we didn't inclue in the magazine proper. I would ask that if you can afford it, you consider subscribing at this level. Not only does this help us, it helps us to allow to keep the main magazine open access to those who cannot afford it.

Finally, we have print subscriptions available. You will be able to purchase a print subscription which renews each quarter. You can cancel at any time and all shipping is sorted upfront (plus this gives you full digital access as well). Purchasing the print issue of the magazine is not just a matter of preference, but it also benefits the magazine massively, as our writers get a share of the profits from every purchase. A huge amount of labour goes into our work, from all our writers, editors, and volunteers, and we truly hope we have produced something that we can all be proud of.

The mission of Playtest Material has never been to make profit. Rather, we want to produce a sustainable organ which will support serious, daring and empathetic criticism of our growing art form.

Join us today, and I promise you won't regret it.
